I agree with you, but some of the articles are hard to pass up. 
As a compromise, I prefer to treat the registration as a sort of
wishlist.

Name?  King Kong
Email?  bob at aol.com
Income?  Over $150,000 please.
Country? Bahamas

So far they haven't given my anything that I've asked for, but
at least I've been able to read the articles.
