It sounds to me like the issue is what is being sent to the printer. In
printing issues narrowing it down like this is a big first step. That's
good. However, if things get off-the-wall frustrating it might be worth
hooking the printer up to the linux box directly and seeing if that
works better. In which case it would be samba's fault after all.
Have you tried cups? I have personally preferred LPRng in the past, but
I did give cups a try again just earlier today and I am more impressed
with it now than I was last time I tried.
