here is what I found out today and what I sent back to the tech support guru's
at IBM, hopefully I have my facts straight about the naming scheme.
I am not sure why this had an effect but this is what I found out, I have four
devices attached to the ide bus
first let me explain the linux ide naming scheme in case you don't allready
know it.
hd = hard drive (ide) a scsi drive would be sd
so hda would be the master drive on the primary interface.
a and b - Master and Slave disks at the Primary interface of the 1st IDE
controller
c and d - Master and Slave disks at the Secondary interface of the 1st IDE
controller
e and f - Master and Slave disks at the Primary interface of the 2nd IDE
controller
g and h - Master and Slave disks at the Secondary interface of the 2nd IDE
controller
..and so on.
configuration with errors on system, the configuration at the time that the
log was sent to you,
hda IBM hard drive
hdb Yamaha cdrw drive
hdc pioneer dvd drive
hde zip 250 atapi drive
this is the configuration that is at this time causing no errors.
hda IBM hard drive
hdb zip 250 atapi drive
hdc Yamaha cdrw drive
hde pioneer dvd drive
I am not sure why the hard drive would be having problems with cdrw drive as
slave device but is having no troubles, at least errors with a zip drive as
slave.
My concern was that having a ata100 device and a ata33 device on the same bus
might be hurting performace of the hard drive.
Thanks for the quick reply and hopefully your knowing this, you might be able
to help someone else out.
