I'm not sure, you'll need to check LTSP.org for the image size.  It's a
few megabytes, IIRC.

TFTP is insecure.  However, we're not using it for uploading, just
downloading.  As long as it's read-only, and the data isn't secure data,
then what does it matter if TFTP is insecure?
